Shrinking budgets mean that schools across the country face staff shortages and can’t afford to pay for urgent repairs.
At Hitherfield Primary School in Lambeth, Executive Headteacher Chris Ashley Jones even has to double up as the lollipop man due to cuts.
This is just one of the challenges he faces thanks to years of underfunding education.
“As a headteacher, you are responsible for the quality of education, but much more than that, you’re responsible for the development of a community,” he says.
“What I really worry about is the fact that are we now going to be failing our community and failing the next generation coming through?”
