Maintained Nursery Schools are in crisis: enough is enough.
Government cuts mean that Maintained Nursery Schools (MNS) have £2,391 less per pupil in real terms than in 2010.
Government cuts mean that Maintained Nursery Schools (MNS) have £2,391 less per pupil in real terms than in 2010. The cuts have meant that many maintained nurseries face the threat of closure. This is devastating considering the crucial role they play in early years provision. And with many of these nurseries located in the most deprived areas of the country, it’s working families who are the most disproportionately affected.
Maintained Nursery Schools have headteachers who are early years specialists, meaning they can provide young children the best start to life, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. But funding cuts mean they are in crisis.
It doesn’t have to be like this. The Government can and should fund maintained nurseries properly.
